It's been a long wait for Liverpool to win their first ever Premier League title. The current situation has kept them waiting even longer but if they do win the title (they will of course), it'll be worth waiting for. Our preview looks ahead to the Mersyside Derby as the Reds travel to Everton who still have chances of qualifying for Europe.

Everton Aiming for the Top Six

It's been another frustrating season for Everton whose owner dreams of winning the Premier League title sooner rather than later. At the time of writing this preview, they are 12th in the Premier League, just the 45 points behind their opponents Liverpool. The summer saw them making plenty of big signings but that didn't pay dividends for them. They only lost one of their first four league games but then embarked on a disastrous run. Eight of their next 11 league games were lost, not the form you want when your local rivals haven't even lost one. A 5-2 league hammering at Anfield ended the tenure of Marco Silva. Then their form suddenly improved, initially under caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson and then the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti. The next 11 league games saw them lose just once and that was at Manchester City

Their improved form turned a relegation battle into a campaign that could see them qualify for European football. Before the suspension though, Everton's form dipped again with a run of one point from three games. That wasn't a big surprise though as they lost at both Arsenal and Chelsea conceding seven goals. The point came from a home draw with Manchester United.

What was disappointing though was the fact against Arsenal and Manchester United, Dominic Calvert-Lewin gave them the lead inside the first three minutes. A top six finish isn't out of the question though if they can regain their form. They are only seven points adrift of sixth place so a good run-in could qualify them for another Europa League campaign.

Closer and Closer

Liverpool go into this game with a 22 point lead over second placed Manchester City. It would take the biggest collapse in the history of football for them not to win their first Premier League title. Their invincibility had diminished a little bit with some defeats in the weeks leading up to the season being suspended. Their unbeaten league record went with a shock 3-0 loss at Watford. They were knocked out by Chelsea in the FA Cup and worst of all, lost their European crown when being kocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid.

Liverpool have won 12 of their away league games this season. Only 26 goals in 14 matches but just nine conceded. Before the loss at Watford, they had won eight away league games in a row. Going back a bit further, Liverpool have only lost two of their last 34 away Premier League matches. Not bad for a side that used to have poor away form. They would love to get a win in this game.

The Reds need just six points from their last nine games to clinch the title. Everton fans will be happy that Manchester City didn't lose to Arsenal on Wednesday. The thought of Liverpool having to win this game to win the title would be too much to bear even if they can't attend this game. Perhaps that title victory will come when Liverpool travel to City on July 2nd.

The form Liverpool were in earlier this year is a slight worry. Will they be able to get back into their rhythm straight away?  Everton do have a good home record and regularly get on the scoresheet. Both teams scoring in this match looks a good bet to make.
