Porto Vs Liverpool Preview

Liverpool go into their away leg with Porto in the last 16 of the Champions League as favourites to win it, but that looks very generous from the bookmakers towards the Premier League outfit.

The Reds have been an unpredictable side this season, sometimes devastating, sometimes confused and often extremely susceptible at the back. They are third in the league table and the only team to beat Manchester City domestically, and yet they have lost to Swansea and West Brom since the turn of the year.

Jurgen Klopp’s side managed that remarkable victory over City in the Premier League on January 14, but has won only two of five contests since then. They are always capable of scoring, but not always capable of picking up results.

Both sides are not afraid to attack

Porto have been a lot more ruthless this season when it comes to winning matches. Granted their competition is less challenging than Liverpool’s, but they sit top of the Primeira Liga with 16 wins, four draws and no defeats from 20 matches.

Those 20 games have seen them score 49 goals and concede just 10. They have been less defensively sound in the Champions League, but no less potent in attack. The Portuguese league leaders scored 15 in six games in Group G.

Liverpool scored a whopping 23 goals in the group stage (only second to PSG) and have 59 in 26 Premier League games this season.

With both teams in fantastic goal scoring form this campaign, we can safely invest in the both teams to score market at 4/6 with 10bet.

Aboubaker is a man to a watch

Mohamed Salah has been stealing the headlines for Liverpool, but the main man for Porto this year has been Vincent Aboubakar. The Cameroonian forward has netted 15 times in 21 league games and scored five in the Champions League as well.

The 26-year-old is on to comfortably outstrip his best scoring season by far and Liverpool’s unreliable defence will likely find him very difficult to stop.

For a man in lethal form, Aboubakar looks very decent value as an anytime goal scorer with 9/5 at 888sport.

Reds to be rocked

The evidence suggests there is going to be a lot of goals in this one, but who is going to get the result they want? Given their unreliability, it is a little surprising that Liverpool are favourites at around 5/4 to win the game.

Porto are much more accustomed to winning games of late and are very used to sticking a lot of goals past teams, especially at home. If they were a gung ho, all-out-attack side then they could play into Liverpool’s hands, but they are based on a sound defence, and could both frustrate and hurt their visitors.

The Reds were good on Sunday in beating Southampton, but they have not won back-to-back matches in 2018.

Other than a goalless draw, few results would be a big surprise at the Estadio Do Dragao, but a home win looks distinctly possible and very tempting to back at 21/10 with Paddy Power.

FREEbets.org.uk Prediction

For the best bit of value in this contest, we can combine two of the aforementioned bets to get a very tasty price. Porto are very capable of winning this, but keeping a clean sheet against Liverpool is a tough ask. But that is not to say that both things cannot happen.
