SportPesa £10 Free Bet Token offer for New UK Customers in 2018
SportPesa has a new customer offer whereby the first bet of £10 is matched with a £10 bonus token which makes it a 100% matched bonus offer. The SportPesa welcome offer is subject to the following terms and conditions:
- The offer only applies to new customers who open an account at www.sportpesa.co.uk
- Deposits made with debit and credit cards qualify but the use of e-Wallets such as Neteller or Skrill invalidates the offer.
- New account holders must make an initial deposit of at least £10.
- Once a qualifying bet has been made the bonus token is credited for the same amount.
- A £10 bet will result in a £10 bonus token so this is a 100% matched offer.
- Once the first bet has been settled new account holders must contact customer support to activate the offer.
- The 100% matched bonus token will be credited within 24 hours of the qualifying bet being settled.
- The minimum first bet is £5 and the maximum is £10.
- Single bets must be placed at odds of 4/5 (1.8) or bigger and all elements of a multiple must have odds of 2/5 (1.4) or bigger.
- Bets on horse racing do not qualify and the bonus token cannot be used on racing.
The SportPesa welcome bonus is the joint lowest in the UK online gambling industry. However, the qualifying conditions are transparent and achievable. Other companies apply higher odds restrictions and the qualifying bet must be turned over just once before a customer has access to the bonus funds. Even so £10 is a modest amount and not a great incentive to open an account especially with an emerging operator trying to get a footing in a mature market.
Other Promotions with Sportpesa
At the time of writing SportPesa did not offer any long terms bonuses but focused on event specific price boosts. The UK target market is mainly football bettors because SportPesa have partnerships with those two Premier League clubs. Hence, the event specific offers are related to football, except for the Best Odds Guaranteed offer for UK and Irish horse racing.
There were matches in the Champions League and Europa League during the week in which this review was undertaken. There would be Premier League price boosts for the weekend fixtures but the following offers were on the site:
SportPesa Price Boosts
Manchester City and Tottenham had away fixtures in the Champions League and generally across the industry the double paid about 9/2. SportPesa boosted the odds for the double to 7/1 but only for £5 bets. Winning bets will be settled in cash at the regular odds and extra winnings are returned in the form of a bonus token. Only single pre-match bets on the match winner count and any cashed out bets do not apply.
Customers could also back both teams to score in the match between Real Madrid and PSG at 8/11 when the regular price was 2/5. Arsenal could be backed at 8/11 to beat Ostersunds in the Europa League which was a boost from 20/39. Both these price boosts required a qualifying bet of £15 to be valid. Overall, the price boosts are significant but qualifying stakes are very low.
Sports, Leagues and Markets
SportPesa offer odds for more than 30 sports, covering the most popular betting sports in the UK and others that are more relevant to the European market. The five main betting sports appear at the top of the sports menu and the rest are in alphabetical order. The Live Betting menu features live events for cricket, football, tennis and several other minor sports.
There is a Quick Picks list of 11 categories and nine of these are related to football. The sport accounts for the majority of sports placed in the UK so SportPesa are catering for British football bettors. Three of the football betting events are for leagues and competitions in the UK and two of the others are the Champions League and Europa League which have Premier League representation.
On the night of fixtures in the Champions League SportPesa were offering 140 markets on the matches. The range of markets was extensive but nothing unique that could not be found on other online betting websites. The margins in the odds were standard and nothing exceptional so SportPesa do not compete on their odds.
Our Conclusion and Verdict
SportPesa are making an impact more with their involvement with Premier League clubs than though their odds and promotions. The welcome offer is for a modest amount and the event-specific offers are for limited stakes.
On first glance navigation around the site is not easy and the button to move down pages is not clear. Overall, this operator is more about style than great offers and odds so it will be interesting to see if the profile becomes greater and new customers are attracted to the site.
More About SportPesa
The SportPesa brand was first launched in Kenya in 2014 and has now entered the UK betting market. The UK premises are in Liverpool and SportPesa are the shirt sponsors of Everton Football Club which is located in the city. The UK website is operated in partnership with TGP Europe Limited, a company with many years experience in supporting an online gambling operation. The site operates under licence from the Isle of Man and the Gambling Commission of Great Britain. SportPesa is a global brand that is now trying to gain market share in the UK gambling industry but the company is competing with some well established and familiar betting brands.
SportPesa don’t focus on their bookmaking services but highlight the fact that they are a technology and entertainment company. Rather than presenting themselves as online bookmakers the focus is on engagement. SportPesa were involved in grass roots sports in Kenya but fundamentally the purpose of the site is to take bets from customers. The role to promote fair and responsible gambling is taken seriously and SportPesa are fully compliant with laws and regulations that apply in the countries where they operate. The operator offers a sportsbook and casino and a fully functional mobile version of the desktop site.
SportPesa provides technical support and live support through Chat. The operator can be contacted through a general email but there is no evidence of contact phone numbers or a postal address. Customers must sign in to access Live Chat for which the response times are unclear. The site features extensive rules and terms and conditions. Deposits and withdrawals are allowed using debit and credit cards and major e-Wallets. Banking is subject to typical minimum and maximum levels. SportPesa offers an affiliate programme and a mobile version of the desktop site.
SportPesa focus on brand recognition more than the bonus to attract new customers. They are involved with two Premier League football clubs in Everton and Southampton and Torino in Italy. As shirt sponsors of Everton they appear to a large market of Premier League football viewers in the UK and around the world. SportPesa invest in promoting the brand in the UK in this way and not so much through the modest welcome offer. However, it is a genuine 100% matched bonus.
