2020 Grand Tours
Giro d'Italia
The first Grand Tour of the year runs from 9-31 May.
Tour de France
The 107th edition of the race will run from 27 June - 19 July 2020 and the defending champion, Egan Bernal, is the very early favourite to win the General Classification again.
Chris Froome, Primoz Roglic, Tom Dumoulin, Thibaut Pinot and Geraint Thomas are all also in the very early mix.
Twice runner-up and previous winner of the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a Espana, Nairo Quintana, is going to be involved, thanks to his Akea-Samsic team getting a wildcard.
However, the Colombian is not seen as a realistic challenger to win the General Classification.
Vuelta a Espana
The Spanish race runs from 14 August - 6 September in 2020.
Before any Grand Tour action gets underway there is the Tour Down Under, the first race on the calendar from 21-26 January in Australia.
Cycling at the 2020 Olympics
The 22 cycling events at the 2020 Olympics run from 25 July - 9 August across the following venues.
- Olympic BMX Course
- Izu Mountain Bike Course
- Izu Velodrome
- Musashinonomori Park
- Fuji International Speedway
2019 Vuelta a Espana
Primoz Roglic had never raced in the Vuelta a Espana before, but the bookmakers fancied him to succeed in 2019, and they were spot on.
He finished third at the Giro d'Italia this year and fourth at the Tour de France in 2018 but was superb in Spain this year, leading the General Classification from Stage 10 until the 21st and final stage.
The Slovenian has also won the Tirreno-Adriatico and Tour de Romandie this year, a title he defended from 2018, when he also won the Tour of the Basque Country.
Alejandro Valverde finished second in the general classification, ahead of another Slovenian rider, Tadej Pogacar.
2019 Tour de France
Egan Bernal became the first Latin American cyclist to win the Tour de France when he triumphed in 2019.
The Colombian was appearing in only his second Grand Tour, having finished 15th in the Tour de France the previous year.
He didn't win a stage of the race and was not ahead in the General Classification until the 19th stage, when he took over from Julian Alaphilippe and held on for the final three stages.
He beat his Team Ineos team-mate, Britain's Geraint Thomas into second place, who narrowly failed to defend his title.

The Individual Time Trials involve riders setting off at set intervals and racing against the clock. The other stages are races and last about five hours. Its another tradition that there is no competitive cycling over the final stage and the leader rides ceremonially into Paris. Stages 19 to 21 will be crucial and usually the winner is confirmed over these three days.
