What is the latest IPL Betting News?
Six teams are still hoping to reach the play-off stages of the IPL. As it stands, only the Kings XI Punjab and the Rising Pune Supergiants are unable to make the cut with race to reach the final at the end of the month really hotting up.
Betting on the outright winner sees the Sunrisers Hyderebad as the favourites although as you would expect with a tournament of this format, that is very likely to change. Hyderebad top the standings with just two games remaining and require just one win in order to confirm their place in the play-offs. Their success this season has been helped in no small part down to the exploits of David Warner. The Australian was the competitions top run scorer last season and he has enjoyed another fruitful campaign this time around. In the previous two seasons they have fallen at the group stage with their only previous play-off appearance coming in 2013.
The second favourites at present are the Royal Challengers Bangalore. They may well be able to rely on results going their way to make the play-offs but a couple of wins would guarantee their spot. The Challengers position as second favourites may come as somewhat of a surprise given their league position but perhaps highlights the bookies belief that big hitters are key in T20 format. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers are the two top run scorers in this years competition and with that pair in the ranks it comes as little surprise to see the Challengers amongst the frontrunners.
Good options for your IPL free bet
The tournament winners market is what sparks debate at the start of the competition and it is often wise to make your selection early before teams start winning and their odds shrink should you want to use your free IPL bet for this.
The top run scorer over the tournament’s history has always been a big name player with Chris Gayle winning the accolade in 2011 and 2012 and Sachin Tendulkar and Matthew Hayden having done so in previous years. Last year's top run scorer David Warner hit 562 runs though that was not even good enough to lead his side to the play-offs.
Sunrisers' David Warner managed an impressive 528 from just 14 matches while the others in the top five runs makers all played 16 games. With two players in the top five the Chennai Super Kings are a good IPL free bet for top run scorer thanks to some attacking cricket.
The market on best bowler has proved to be a little more unpredictable in recent years with the likes of Sohail Tanvir and Morne Morkel have picked up the award. In fact, Dwayne Bravo set a new record in 2013 by taking 32 wickets in the tournament, something few would have predicted. In 2014 Mohit Sharma from the Super Kings topped the charts with 23. Again Chennai had two players in the top five. Last year it was that man Bravo again, who took a total of 26.
A bowler hat-trick could be worth betting on as there have been at least one every season since 2008. A hat-trick is when a bowler takes three wickets in a row. William Hill have odds of 8/1 there will be one in 2016, which is pretty much free money.
Other types of IPL Free Bets
The number of markets on which you can use your IPL free bets has grown remarkably over the past ten years. Where once punters were restricted to betting on the match winner and perhaps the number of runs scored in an innings, there is now the option to bet for free on the IPL on a vast number of different markets, including:
- Top team wicket taker
- Number of extras in an innings
- Batsmen match bets
- Number of runs within an over
- method of dismissal
- Highest opening partnership
- Century scored
- Total 4s and total 6s ......
These are just a handful of the markets now offered by most bookmakers on almost every international cricket match as well as many domestic ones too.
