Bradford V Millwall Preview
Bradford and Millwall meet at Wembley on Saturday for the chance to earn promotion to the Championship in the League One playoff final. These teams met last year in the semi-finals of the playoffs and Millwall came out on top, but after drawing with each other twice during the league this season, there is certainly nothing between the two sides.
The Bantams did not suffer one single, solitary defeat at Valley Parade this season and that includes their 1-0 victory over Fleetwood in the first leg of their playoff semi-final. However, with 12 draws at home, that's not quite the ultra-impressive stat one might digest at first glance. Still, it certainly does show their ability to avoid defeat and remain in games no matter what and, furthermore, only champions Sheffield United lost fewer games than Bradford, while Millwall lost six games more. The other end of the scale, however, shows that they were they joint-lowest goalscorers in the top eleven and one has to believe that if they had more goals in their ranks, they could have turned a few of those draws into wins and automatic promotion would have been almost a certain. The likes of Billy Clarke and the lightening quick Mark Marshall will be the key men for Stuart McCall and his troops.
London's home comforts
Millwall won't have to go far when they set off for Wembley on Saturday, but home comforts don't make too much of a difference to Neil Harris' men. After holding Scunthorpe at home in the first leg, Millwall recorded a 3-2 victory in the second leg of their playoff semi-final to book their place at Wembley. Although they sneaked in with the final playoff spot in League One, they have had plenty of varied results that have prompted claims of inconsistency over the last 9 outings. They have had four wins, four losses and one draw, so it really has been a mixed bag for the south east London side. Their side has plenty of goals in it with the likes of Lee Gregory and Steve Morison who have 34 goals between them this season, but wingers Aiden O'Brien and Shane Ferguson also add another exciting dimension to the side. In fact, O'Brien has 15 goals thus far this campaign and is, arguably, the best goalscoring midfielder in League One. Can Millwall find the goals to thwart a stubborn Bradford, though?
Given how both of their previous meetings have gone (draws) and the magnitude of the occasion, not to mention what is at stake, it is sure to be a cagey and tight affair. In all likelihood, this game will go the distance.
