It's the final day of the Premier League season and just two issues are left to be resolved. Our preview looks ahead to just who will finish in the top four and if Swansea City can somehow avoid relegation.

Swansea Look Doomed

The situation down at the bottom of the table did look as if there'd be an exciting end to the season. Half the division seems to have been involved in the relegation battle at some point but one by one, they have secured their futures in the Premier League. Most surprises have been caused by the results achieved by Huddersfield with two all-important points at Manchester City and Chelsea. They are probably the worst side to ever avoid relegation but that's just what they have done, all they need to do now is a striker or two and more positive attitude because entertaining the fans should be part of the game.

So we reach the final day and it's only going to start getting exciting if Swansea suddenly start scoring plenty of goals at home to already relegated Stoke City and Manchester City start thrashing Southampton. After their defeat by Southampton on Tuesday, Swansea are three points from safety but with a goal difference that is nine goals worse than the Saints.

Swansea are up against a side that have conceded 67 league goals this season but the trouble is the Welsh side have only scored 27 themselves, a real recipe for disaster. With just two goals in the last nine league and cup games and not one in the last four, scoring a hatful of goals here looks well beyond them. It'll be a cruel pill to swallow being relegated as rivals Cardiff City gain promotion but that's what happens when you sell your best players and don't replace them adequately.

Southampton have dug themselves out of trouble with a run of seven points from three games that has all but made them safe. They might start changing their mind if final day opponents Manchester City start running amok but Southampton's defence has been in better form of late with only two goals conceded in the last four league games. It's unlikely they will celebrate the final day of the season with a home win but they will be able to start planning for another season in the Premier League.

Newcastle United v Chelsea

A run of five points from five league games in January and February seriously damaged the hopes of Chelsea making it into the Champions League next season. Those appalling losses to Bournemouth and Watford are likely to prove fatal and they'll spend next season playing some Thursday night football in the Europa League.

A home loss to Tottenham has been followed by a run of seven league and cup games without defeat but home draws with West Ham United and Huddersfield Town have again seen them lose precious ground in their bid to finish in the top four. Starting with Eden Hazard and Olivier Giroud on the bench was perhaps one of Antonio Conte's final errors as boss of Chelsea. Even a win here won't get them into the top four if Liverpool can avoid defeat against Brighton even if they beat Manchester United at Wembley to lift the FA Cup.

Newcastle United secured their place in the Premier League a few weeks ago and have done precious little since. They have lost their last four league games scoring just twice but losing each match by a single goal. Three of those games were played away from home and Newcastle have only lost one of their last eight home league matches. They can't climb any higher than 10th in the table but after an up and down season, at least it's not ended with them returning to the second tier of English football.

Chelsea will be keeping an eye on the score at Anfield but have to concentrate as much as they possibly can on getting three points from this game. Newcastle United are limping towards the end of the season and won't be defending in mass as Huddersfield Town did on Wednesday. Chelsea can get the win in this game but it's unlikely to get them into the Champions League.

Liverpool v Brighton and Hove Albion

Liverpool should have clinched a place in the Champions League weeks ago but a run of five league games without a win have put them in danger of missing out on a top four finish.  They start the final set of fixtures with a two-point lead over Chelsea and a goal difference that is 15 goals better than the Londoners. A point is all they need against Brighton and in terms of getting into Europe's top club competition next season, that, with respect to Brighton, is easier than having to beat Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

The Reds are yet to lose a home league game this season and haven't conceded a goal in their last four at Anfield. With the Champions League final 13 days after this game, there's no real need to play a weakened side, though you can expect some of the top players to take an early bath if Liverpool were to go a couple of goals up.

Brighton and Hove Albion secured their position in England's top league with a home win over Manchester United earlier this month. That may lead some to believe that they won't be putting 100 percent in for this match and they did lose 3-1 at Manchester City on Wednesday. However, there's a lot of cash to be won in this league and a win here or just a draw could see them climb a few places. The problem Brighton have to sort out for next season is their away form. They have gone 12 away league games without a win and won just two of the last 25 in this league. Only Stoke City have earned fewer away league points than Brighton and but for seven home wins, they'd most likely have been relegated this season.

Current odds for Brighton to beat Liverpool are 16/1 with Skybet (18+ Ts & Cs Apply) Prediction

Liverpool only need a point to confirm their place in next season's Champions League without having to go through the pressure of beating Real Madrid to qualify. Their league form has dipped in recent weeks but this preview believes they can get a win over a Brighton side that struggles away from home. Go for a home win with over 2.5 goals scored in the game.
