Liverpool are on fire at present and scoring for fun. Our preview looks ahead to the first Merseyside derby of the season as they host Everton at Anfield.
Goals Galore for the Reds
Midweek saw Liverpool win their group in Europe's top club competition with a 7-0 home win over Spartak Moscow. That was their second 7-0 win in the group after earlier thrashing Maribor. Liverpool just keep on scoring at present with 12 in the last two and 40 in the last 11. Their last five home league and cup games have been won by an aggregate of 17-1. Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane have sccored 46 goals between them this season, all a bit worrying for an often fragile Everton defence.
Liverpool are yet to lose a home game at Anfield this season and come into this game having won seven of their last nine league and cup games. With the defence showing distinct signs of improvement, they are beginning to look a real force in the Premier League this season, though a top four finish is the best they are going to achieve unless Manchester City collapse in the second-half of the season.
With the two sides drawn to meet again at Anfield in the FA Cup third round, Liverpool will be looking to extend their long unbeaten run over Everton. That and a draw in the Manchester derby wouldn't be a bad weekend for the Reds.
Everton Fighting Back
The crisis at Goodison Park appears to be over with the club starting this weekend in 10th place in the top league in English football. It's not long since they were in the bottom three and looking at the possiblity of ending up in the second-tier of English football for the first time in their history. They have won their last two league games but West Ham and Huddersfield at home aren't the toughest tasks around.
Midweek has seen them have a rather pointless trip to Cyprus for a spot of Europa League gamel against Apollon Limassol with Everton already knocked out of the competition. Away form has been a problem for Everton and they only have three points from seven away league games this season with 16 goals conceded. Just how they play in this game will give an indication of whether they can sort their away day problems out and make a bid for Europe. Their record against Liverpool is not a great one and they are yet to win at Anfield this century. If Everton can win this, then those doubting Sam Allardyce might think again.
Liverpool just keep on scoring at present and will give Everton a much tougher time than West Ham and Huddersfield. They are on an impressive run at Anfield and this preview believes that Liverpool will win this game in a match that has over 2.5 goals scored in it.
